WHAT WE DO

To advance and further patient safety and the practice of anesthesiology in Illinois through education, representation and advocacy of the Illinois anesthesiologist.

ILLINOIS VOTERS HAVE SPOKEN

94% want a physician led team administering anesthesia for their family (only 4% want a nurse anesthetist without physician supervision).

64% oppose Illinois legislation permiting nurse anesthetists to administer anesthesia & respond to anesthesia emergencies without the involvement of a physician.

The Legislative Journey to Independence Practice

ISA believes that only physicians have the clinical expertise and training to exercise independent medical judgment.

LEGISLATION TO LICENSE ANESTHESIOLOGIST ASSISTANTS: HB3205

With passage of this bill, Illinois will join most states in midwest which already license AAs and will allow AAs from Illinois working in other states to return to their home state.

The new avalanche of administrative requirements with ICD10, MACRA, and every other acronym seems overwhelming if not depressing. It’s a great feeling to discover that no anesthesiologist is alone in this modern world. Illinois has an amazing talent pool to meet any challenge. Being a member of ISA helps me feel good about being a physician these days
