ISA District 2 Delegate

At its Practice Management Dinner last Fall, the ISA welcomed the ASA’s Chief Quality Officer, Alex Hannenberg, MD, to lecture on Quality Measures, MACRA & Bundled Care, with a focus on “Value vs. Volume.”

Deciphering CMS billing is daunting. To help interpret the language of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, more commonly referred to as MACRA, Dr. Hannenberg explained that although Medicare’s goal is to decrease cost growth while maintaining quality, groups and individual physicians must decide how they will adjust their billing strategies to meet that objective in their own practices. Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) vs. Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APM) were contrasted, concluding that only through successful APM performance will incomes be maintained.
